Welcome Week Student Coordinator (Up to 2 Positions) - Office of Student Culture and Community Standards
$21.20 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay
May 26, 2025 to September 29, 2025
The office of Student Culture and Community Standards is seeking applicants to fill two (2) positions as Welcome Week Student Coordinator(s). These positions offer a unique opportunity for current, upper-year UPEI Students to provide support in the development of programming to create an exciting and welcoming environment for new and returning students for the start of the new academic year.
The successful applicant(s) will work directly with Student Culture and Community Standards staff, and will be mentored in communications, event planning, leadership, and other critical skills to successfully run and execute the Welcome Week (formerly New Student Orientation) programming at the beginning of the new academic year. We are looking for two (2) individuals who have energy, natural leadership skills, excellent time management and organization skills along with a passion for delivering events and programming.
The Welcome Week Student Coordinator(s) will have demonstrated experience in facilitating events, programming and student services at UPEI or in other similar settings. Additionally, they will have a foundational understanding of the UPEI campus, staff and faculty contacts and other campus partners who will be engaged in the planning and implementation of Welcome Week events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate(s) will:
- Collaborate with the Office of Student Culture and Community Standards and the Welcome Week Organizing committee to fulfill job requirements
- Work under the direction of the Office of Student Culture and Community Standards to deliver Welcome Week Programming as the student lead for events and programming during events
- Support recruitment activities of the Office of Student Culture and Community Standards to recruit Student Leaders and Point People for Welcome Week events
- Liaise and communicate with several student service providers across the UPEI campus to establish and maintain connections for the Welcome Week Programming
- Be an active and leading member of the Welcome Week Organizing Committee, attend regular meetings, facilitate committee meetings when required and participate in them actively
- Facilitate community and business partnerships throughout the process of executing Welcome Week Programming
- Utilize various modes of communication, including Facebook, Twitter and the UPEI webpages, to communicate with students and respond to questions and requests about Welcome Week Programming
- Support and lead the creation of marketing and promotional material for the Welcome Week Programming along with the Student Engagement Officer.
- Maintain statistical data for various aspects and events during the Welcome Week Programming
- Work with the Student Engagement Officer to ensure the budget and expenses for the Welcome Week are utilized and accounted for appropriately
- Work with the Office of Student Culture and Community Standards on various projects related to transitioning students into their life at UPEI
- Execute all planned Welcome Week events and ensure all safety, protocol and engagement during these events and programming under the guidance of the Student Engagement Officer
- At the end of Welcome Week, prepare, collate and submit the relevant 2025 Welcome Week reports
- Other related and administrative duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current UPEI student in their 3rd, 4th or final year standing
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience in a leadership role
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with minimal supervision
- Experience with online/virtual communication and program delivery
- Familiarity with computers and social media platforms
- Knowledgeable of UPEI programs, services, and facilities
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
- Must be able in attendance in-person for shifts
