In accordance with the UPEI Action Plan: Building A Culture of Trust, Safety and Inclusion, the University has committed to developing a new Harassment and Discrimination Policy and Sexual Violence Policy (to replace the current Fair Treatment Policy and Sexual Violence Policy).

UPEI offered Mr. Christopher Griffin the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion to be developed thoughtfully and including other voices on the topic of free expression. 

On April 15, upon learning of a planned meeting on April 16, Mr. Griffin requested to be heard at that meeting. In response, the University accepted that request and scheduled a time for his presentation in the Performing Arts Centre Amphitheatre, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on April 16.

After three months of brainstorming, determination, and refining their ideas, Enactus-UPEI, a club dedicated to sustainable entrepreneurship, successfully developed a potato soap product called Spuds2Suds.

UPEI’s Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the 2024–25 season at the annual UPEI Panther Celebration – Athletic Awards Gala on Friday, March 28, recognizing outstanding student-athletes who have excelled in sport, the classroom, and the community.

This year, the UPEI Alumni Association’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award went to Lauren Rainford, UPEI Women’s Basketball. The Male Athlete of the Year winner was Kamari Scott, UPEI Men’s Basketball.

In January 2025, the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) dairy veterinary team completed another successful trip to Meru County, Kenya, as part of the long-standing partnership with Farmers Helping Farmers (FHF), the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), and Alinea International.

Dr. Ling Li, a post-doctoral fellow in the UPEI Faculty of Education, was awarded a Mitacs Elevate Postdoctoral Fellowship for a study to evaluate the “Pyramid to Retention: Supporting Educators to Enhance Social and Emotional Competencies in Infants and Young Children” in the early learning and child-care sector on PEI.

UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) teams, composed of a total of 48 students, competed at the 2025 Atlantic Engineering Competition (AEC), hosted at Université de Moncton in New Brunswick from January 24–26, 2025. 

The University of Prince Edward Island invites the nomination of candidates for honorary degrees to be conferred at Convocation in May 2025.

Honorary degrees are conferred honoris causa, “for the sake of honour,” and are intended to recognize outstanding provincial, national, and international contributions in any field of endeavour. Contributions should reflect extraordinary intellectual or artistic achievements, or significant service to society at a standard of excellence that merits the University’s highest honour.

UPEI’s 2024 Giving Tuesday campaign was an unprecedented success, raising a total of $44,010 from 54 extremely generous donors on the Global Day of Philanthropy. An anonymous donor pledged to match Giving Tuesday donations up to $20,000, making it by far the largest year yet for UPEI. 

The donations will be dedicated to the University’s $15-million Robertson Library Revitalization campaign.
