UPEI staff and alumni rock at PEI women’s curling championship
The UPEI community will be well represented by both alumni and staff at the national women’s curling championship, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, taking place in Calgary, Alberta from February 16–25, 2024.
The Jane DiCarlo curling team, which includes Veronica Mayne, Sabrina Smith, and Whitney Jenkins, defeated the Amanda Power rink twice on Sunday, January 28, to win the PEI Scotties Tournament of Hearts Provincial Women’s Curling Championship in Summerside, earning them the right to play in the national women's curling championship.
ACENET: Fortran as a Second Language
Fortran, one of the initial high-level programming languages, continues to be an excellent option for high-performance computing due to its superb performance. The newer versions offer many modern features, including object-oriented programming capabilities to programmers. This course will cover some of these features.
Prerequisites: Familiarity with another programming language.
The session will take place Wednesday, April 24, 10:00 am--12:00 and 2:00--4:00 pm.
Island Lecture Series presentation and book launch on February 27
The Bridge Effect: Critical Reflections in the Age of Technological Solutionism, a book co-edited by Drs. Laurie Brinklow and Andrew Jennings, will be launched at the Institute of Island Studies’ Island Lecture Series presentation on February 27. Featuring a discussion of the effect of bridges—physical or digital—on island life and culture, the event will take place from 7:00-8:30 pm in the Faculty Lounge, SDU Main Building, UPEI.

UPEI Engineering students win at 2024 Atlantic Engineering Competition
Eleven UPEI Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) teams, composed of a total of 41 students, competed at the 2024 Atlantic Engineering Competition (AEC), hosted at University of New Brunswick in Fredericton from January 19–21, 2024, by the Atlantic Council of Engineering Students.
Six of the UPEI teams will move on to the prestigious Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) in Calgary, Alberta, from March 1–4, 2024. This is the highest number of qualifying teams among universities in Atlantic Canada.
Beading workshop sessions
Discussions cover topics such as the value of beading to Indigenous communities, how to decolonize the classroom, and how to incorporate Indigenous knowledge into your practice. Please note that this will be a safe space to ask any questions you may have. Attendance at the event is open to both novice and experienced beaders. Please RSVP to ensure we have adequate materials.

The Experiential Education Department is offering the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) training and certification program through the Canadian Centre for Diversity and Inclusion's See Different program. This free certificate program is open to UPEI students and staff under the age of 24.
