UPEI Foods and Nutrition student wins Undergraduate Research Award

Joanne Severe, a fourth-year University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) Foods and Nutrition student and dietetic intern, won the Undergraduate Research Award for her thesis and presentation, “Mealtime in Child Care Centres: Exploring Educators’ Feeding Practices,” at the annual Science Atlantic Nutrition and Foods Conference, hosted virtually on April 28 and 29, 2023, by UPEI.

Women in Cognitive Science Canada and presentation by Dr. Debra Titone

Dr. Debra Titone, Canada Research Chair in Language and Multilingualism (Tier I) and Associate Vice-Principal Research at McGill University, and co-founder of Women in Cognitive Science Canada (NSERC/CSBBCS funded), gave a presentation entitled “Women in Cognitive Science Canada: A Grass-roots Effort to Foster Disciplinary Equity and Inclusivity” at UPEI on Tuesday, July 18.

University extends condolences on the passing of Dr. James “Jim” MacAulay

Dr. Greg Keefe, UPEI’s interim president and vice-chancellor, issued a message today to faculty and staff on the passing of Dr. James “Jim” MacAulay, a UPEI honorary degree recipient, proponent of higher education and life-long learning, and proud Saint Dunstan’s University alumnus (SDU ’62). Dr. MacAulay passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023, after a brief illness in Souris, PEI.

UPEI researchers receive funding from provincial climate challenge fund

Congratulations to five UPEI researchers who have received funding from the Government of PEI’s climate challenge fund.

Their projects were among 18 announced by the Honourable Stephen Myers, Minister of Environment, Energy and Climate Change, at the UPEI Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation on July 18. The fund provides $1 million annually to help organizations develop innovative solutions to climate change.

Dr. Meagan Walker’s success at UPEI’s Three Minute Thesis competition

A second-place finish at the Three Minute Thesis competition is just the beginning for Dr. Meagan Walker, MSc, Department of Companion Animals, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The Three Minute Thesis competition is a skills development activity held every year at UPEI which challenges thesis-based graduate students to explain their research project to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.

Author Gary MacDougall will interview Don McDougall the subject of his 2022 Biography "Don McDougall—Business: Get it done, have some fun" about his positive memories of being a student at SDU, his interesting times leading various private sector businesses, his role in bringing in the Toronto Blue Jays to Canada, his current business interests in PEI and other interesting anecdotes. Don was most recently inducted on June 30th to the Order of Canada.
