Dr. Kathleen MacMillan, Ambulatory Equine Service, Atlantic Veterinary College at UPEI, will give a community workshop about equine animal welfare on Tuesday, April 14, at 7 p.m. in Lecture Theatre A. She will present the guidelines for minimum standards of care for the welfare of the horse thus dispelling the truths and myths about what horses really need to sustain a happy and healthy life. This will include proper nutrition, appropriate shelter, disease prevention and treatment, humane handling, and when necessary, end of life decisions and humane euthanasia. There will also be a section on recognizing signs for concern, such as how to body condition score horses and what you as an individual can do if you suspect a hose is in distress and their welfare is at risk. Dr. MacMillan will introduce "The Five Freedoms", a core concept of animal welfare; by upholding these freedoms, an animal's primary welfare needs will be met. Everyone is welcome. The AVC White Coat Ceremony is a memorable, incredibly moving ceremony symbolizing the achievement of their dreams in becoming Doctors of Veterinary Medicine,with graduating students, their families, the AVC community, and award donors in attendance. Graduates are called forward in a formal ceremony and presented with their white coats by the person they identify as being paramount to their success. Following the White Coat presentations, the graduating class recites the Veterinary Oath with the Dean of Veterinary Medicine and class photos are taken. AVC Class of 2015 White Coat Ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm in the Homburg Theatre, Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Father Charlie Cheverie will lead our Good Friday Celebration of the Passion of our Lord. This has traditionally been a well-attended service, so please be on time.

"Jesus rose and so will our pancakes!" This event has now been re-scheduled twice thanks to Mother Nature. We will serve!!!

Donna R. MacCormac will present her Master of Education Thesis Defence on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 10:00 am in Memorial Hall, room 308. The thesis is entitled "On Writing and Transformation: One Story at a Time." All are welcome to attend.

The last brown bag lunch for the 2014-2015 Graduate Student "How-To" Seminar series will take place on Thursday, May 7th, 2015 from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm. The title of the seminar is "Mixed-methods and multi-methods: Forms of inquiry and ways of knowing."

The academic planning process is meant to build on the reflection, wayfinding, and planning that began with the work done on the UPEI Strategic Plan. The Academic Planning Group is currently in its fifth month of work since being created by Senate. We are currently still collecting data through public consultation and reviews being conducted by programs on campus. We expect to present our plan to Senate for the first Senate Meeting of the 2015-2016 academic year in September 2015. The Academic Plan that is shaping up from our analysis of the data and from our deliberations is both about setting goals for our institution and about taking a practical look at the work that needs to be done to make UPEI an even better place to live and learn. We used the directions listed in the strategic plan as our starting point and will be using our various feedback mechanisms to contextualize those directions and uncover new and interesting directions for our university. In the coming months, we encourage you to participate in the academic planning process, both during formal events and through direct communication with any of the members of the committee. Each item of feedback will be considered in the development of the Academic Plan. We are working towards a plan that we can use to help shape our future directions and make real immediate change to our University.
